Plea In Kerala High Court Seeks Removal Of 'High Court' Nameplates From Cars Of Govt Lawyers

The petitioner relies on a judgment rendered by the Court in April, 2022 in WP(C) No. 23021 of 2018 wherein it was observed that law officers and central government counsels cannot display the name of the High Court on their motor vehicles.

“When this Honourable Court…declared that the Law Officers and the Central Government Counsel are not entitled to exhibit the name of this Honourable Court on their motor vehicles, the Law Officers and Central Government Counsel are expected to obey that order. They cannot feign ignorance of…order and flout it with impunity,” states the plea.

The petitioner has further stated that he submitted a representation before the Advocate General, the Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement) and the Transport Commissioner highlighting these facts.

The petition has also pointed out several instances in which many State and Central government counsels practicing in the Court have displayed the Court's name in their cars' designation boards.

Thus, the petitioner is seeking a direction to the AG and the Additional Solicitor General of India to instruct the government pleaders and CGCs to remove the High Court's name from their designation boards. As similar relief is also sought in the interim.

Notably, by order dated 7 July 2021, the Court had directed all Government Pleaders to remove their designations from the number plates of their vehicles within one week.
