MNLU Mumbai: 13th Edition Of The Padma Vibhushan N.A. Palkhivala Memorial National Moot Court Competition, 2023

Maharashtra National law University Mumbai in association with All India Federation of Tax Practitioners (Western Zone), Income-tax Appellate Tribunal Bar Association – Mumbai & Goods and Services Tax Practitioners’ Association – Maharashtra brings to you the 13th edition of the Padma Vibhushan N.A. Palkhivala Memorial National Moot Court (Virtual) Competition, 2023 as well as the Padma Vibhushan N.A. Memorial National Research Paper Competition, 2023. The moot revolves around taxation law and seeks to inculcate interest about Tax law practice in the minds of students.

ELIGIBILITY

1. Participation is strictly restricted to bona fide law students enrolled in the three-year or five-year LL.B. or degree course in any institution recognized by the Bar Council of India.

2. An institution can send an official team representing the institution. (Registration of institution)

TEAM COMPOSITION

  1. Teams should comprise of a maximum of three members, wherein two members shall perform the role of a speaker and one member shall perform the role of a researcher.
  2. The substitution of any Team Member is not allowed after the registration deadline except in extenuating circumstances and only with permission of the Organizers.
  3. A researcher may be allowed to argue instead of a speaker only with the permission of the Court.

REGISTRATION

  1. Interested teams are required to register for the Competition by filling the registration form. The link to the form is provided below:

  1. All communications concerning the Competition will be sent by an e-mail to the nominated contact person. The nominated contact person shall be responsible to convey all the information to the team.
  2. The teams representing institution are also required to mention the email-id of either the respective committee or the head/dean of the institution in the Registration Form.
  3. After submission of the Registration Form, a mail confirming the provisional registration will be sent to the respective committee or head/dean of the institution and the primary contact.
  4. The last date for completion of all the registration formalities is before 18th September 2023 (11:59 P.M. IST).
  5. The confirmation of Registration will be notified to the teams by the Organizers, after the completion and verification of all the Registration formalities. The team will also be provided with a Team Code, in any stage of the competition, a team must be identified only by the allotted team-code.

Note:

  1. All team members must refrain from disclosing the identity of their institution at any time in any manner during the course of their participation in the competition. Non – Compliance to this rule shall lead to severe penalty or disqualification as determined by the Organizers.

Padma Vibhushan N.A. Memorial National Research Paper Competition, 2023

The All India Federation of Tax Practitioners (AIFTP), the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) Bar Association and The Goods and Service Tax Practitioners Association of Maharashtra (GSTPAM) in association with Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai are pleased to announce the 13th Nani Palkhivala Memorial Research Paper Competition, 2023.

The topics for this year’s Research Paper for Professionals are:

Topic 1: GIFT City: Hits & Misses (Direct and Indirect Taxation aspects)

Topic 2: GST: A good & simple tax – Controversial issues and possible solutions

The topics for this year’s Research Paper for Students are:

The role of digitalization in widening the Income-tax base

Whether the activity of a Charitable Trust constitutes a Business under GST?

Each article can be authored by a maximum of two authors. The entries will be judged by the Hon’ble Judges of the High Court and Senior Advocates. The professional must be below the age of 35 as on September 15, 2023. The three best articles will be awarded cash prizes, along with a certificate of merit. The winning research paper will be published in the AIFTP Journal, Journal of GSTPAM, ITATonline website. The entries must reach ITAT Bar Association and MNLU Mumbai (via a google form that will be shared upon registration) on or before October 06, 2023, by 5:00 P.M. IST.

PRESENTATION

The research article must comprise not less than 7,500 words and not more than 10,000 words including footnotes. The research paper should be typed on A4 size paper; font size of the body of the text must be 12, font type: Times New Roman, 1.5 Spacing and one-inch margins on each side. Citing and referencing should be as per OSCOLA 4th Edition
