National Law University, Jodhpur (NLUJ) witnessed a significant moment in the journey of inclusive legal education in India with the formal inauguration of the Rajiv K. Luthra – NLUJ Accessibility Lab — the first dedicated accessibility facility of its kind at the University campus, administered under the Centre for Disability Studies and Empowerment (CDSE), NLUJ.

In a meaningful and symbolic gesture, the Accessibility Lab was inaugurated by students with special abilities, reflecting the spirit of inclusion and equal opportunity that the initiative seeks to promote.

The ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Harpreet Kaur, Registrar Dr. Sunita Pankaj, and representatives of the Rajiv K. Luthra Foundation, including Ms. Gayatri K. Luthra, Mr. Abhishek Mathur, Senior Partner at Luthra and Luthra Law Offices, and Mr. Ananya Gaur.

The establishment of the Lab has been made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Rajiv K. Luthra Foundation and NLUJ in December 2025. Its inauguration holds special significance as it coincides with NLUJ's 25th Anniversary, celebrated under the University's enduring motto, “Knowledge is Empowerment.”

The Lab bears the name of the late Shri Rajiv K. Luthra, one of India's most eminent corporate lawyers and a lifelong advocate of equal opportunity and professional excellence. As the founding force behind Luthra and Luthra Law Offices, his distinguished career reflected not only the highest standards of legal practice, but also a deep commitment to building a more equitable and inclusive profession.

The Rajiv K. Luthra – NLUJ Accessibility Lab stands as a tribute to that vision — a dedicated space aimed at ensuring that every aspiring lawyer, regardless of disability, has equal access to legal education and opportunities for growth and excellence.

The MoU between the Rajiv K. Luthra Foundation and NLUJ envisions much more than the creation of a physical facility. It lays the foundation for long-term academic support, disability-inclusive research, policy engagement in the field of accessibility and disability rights, and structured professional mentorship for students with disabilities.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rashmi Mathur, Faculty Chairperson of the Centre for Disability Studies and Empowerment, NLUJ, expressed gratitude to the Luthra Foundation for helping transform a long-cherished institutional aspiration into reality. She reaffirmed the University's commitment to strengthening inclusive excellence within legal education.

The Lab is designed to support students across a wide spectrum of disabilities, including visual, auditory, locomotor, learning, and other disability categories. It is a state-of-the-art, multi-functional facility equipped with advanced assistive technologies, accessible digital repositories, and structured training modules tailored to the needs of persons with disabilities.

Students will have access to specialised hardware and software tools, including screen readers, magnification systems, hearing-assistive devices, and accessible academic material, enabling seamless and independent engagement with the University's learning resources. Beyond serving as a technology support centre, the Lab will also function as a hub for research, dialogue, and policy discourse on disability rights and accessibility in legal education.
