The period of suspension of judicial and administrative functioning of the Calcutta High Court has been extended till July 19, 2020, on account of new phase of lock down in the city.

Through a notification issued by the Registrar General, the Chief Justice has directed that the High Court will remain closed until July 19 as considerable parts of the city have been declared as containment zones.

"It is hereby notified for information of all concerned that the Hon'ble the Chief Justice, High Court, Calcutta has been pleased to extend the period of suspension of judicial and administrative works of High Court, Calcutta till 19th July, 2020 on account of new phase of lockdown in Kolkata and constant increase in the containment zones and rapid increase of Covid-19 patients in the city of Kolkata and its suburbs," the notification reads.

The order is in continuation of the Notification dated July 9, 2020, whereby it was informed that the High Court will remain closed between July 10 and July 13, for sanitization purposes.

As per the latest update, there are 3,568 active Covid cases in Kolkata.
