Mumbai Consumer Forum Admits Case Against PVR Over Technical Glitches, Delayed Screening Of 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' Film
A District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC) has admitted a complaint against multiplex company PVR Cinemas for alleged 'deficiency' in screening of Bollywood film 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' and has issued notice to it.
The DCDRC coram comprising Samindara Surve (President) and Sameer Kamble (Member) in its July 2 order, admitted the complaint filed by one Snigdha Khandelwal, who has accused PVR of providing 'deficient' services as the screening of the film was interrupted on several counts because of some technical issue at their end.
Khandelwal, a lawyer from Mumbai's Andheri area, claimed that she had booked a premium "Luxe" category ticket for the movie which was being screened at PVR Inox in Infinity Mall in her vicinity. She paid around Rs 1700 for the premium tickets.
According to her lawyer Kashif Ali Khan Deshmukh, the movie was to screen from 11:30PM as per the ticket timings, yet the screening commenced only after an 'unexplained' delay of 30 mins.
"The film screening was repeatedly interrupted due to technical failures. In fact certain portions of the movie were replayed or restarted multiple times, which caused disruption to the screening of the film and also caused inconvenience to the complainant. Further, the recliner Luxe seat allotted to the complainant malfunctioned and became non-operational causing physical discomfort and back pain and postural strain to the complainant for over four hours," the plea reads.
Khandelwal has claimed that she had some other appointments on the subsequent day but due to the discomfort and pain she had to cancel all her pre-scheduled plans.
Further, the complainant issued legal notices to the respondents seeking compensation for the deficient services, however, though the notices were responded to, but the responses only comprised of 'denial' of all the contentions raised by Khandelwal.
Therefore, Khandelwal has through the instant plaint demanded a total of Rs 15 lakhs towards compensation for mental agony, physical discomfort, harassment, inconvenience, deficiency in service, unfair trade practice, and the overall hardship suffered by her due to the negligent acts, malfunctioning infrastructure, and deficiency in service.
The DCDRC is likely to hear this matter now on October 26.
