The Madras High Court has directed the State Public Prosecutor to give instructions to the police officers appearing before court to come prepared with the particulars of the case.

Justice AD Jagadish Chandra passed the direction in a bail petition after noting that the police officer who was deputed by the investigation agency to assist the public prosecutor was fumbling in the court without knowing the particulars of the case.

"When the matter was taken up today, the Police personnel, who was deputed by the investigating agency to be present in the court hall to furnish information in this case to the Public Prosecutor, was fumbling and stumbling without proper information and thereby disrupting the hearing of cases," the court said.

The court also noted that this was not the first instance where this has happened. The court has previously also expressed its displeasure in the lethargic manner in which the officers carried themselves, it said.

"This Court had, repeatedly, brought it to the notice of the learned Public Prosecutor and orally directed him to apprise the situation to the Director General of Police and ensure that personnel having sufficient knowledge about the case alone are sent to the Court for giving instructions, however, it is not heeded by the prosecuting agencies even as on today, which constrains this court to make a note of the same," the court said.
