The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of five additional judges of the Madras High Court as permanent judges.

The judges recommended by the Collegium are:

(i) Shri Justice A A Nakkiran,

(ii) Ms. Justice Nidumolu Mala,

(iii) Shri Justice S Sounthar,

(iv) Shri Justice Sunder Mohan, and

(v) Shri Justice Kabali Kumaresh Babu.

In its resolution dated 31st August, the Collegium said that it had unanimously recommended the names of above five judges on June 20, 2023 which was concurred by the Chief Minister and the Governor.

Further, in terms of Memorandum of Procedure, a Supreme Court judge conversant with the Madras High Court was consulted to ascertain the suitability and a committee of two Supreme Court judges was constituted to assess the judgements of the judges. After proper scrutiny, the Collegium recommended the names.
