The Rajasthan High Court recently issued notice on a PIL seeking creation of an official WhatsApp Channel of the High Court for consolidated access to cause lists, e-filing details, order/judgments etc.

A division bench of Dr. Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Justice Bipin Gupta issued notice on a plea filed by a practising advocate.

The petitioner highlighted the fact that since 2023, the Court had started uploading cause lists on a “Telegram” channel. Further, the e-Courts website of the Court had also initiated a feature of sending text message on mobile number mentioned on the case file for updates like listed date, disposal of case, etc.

However, the petitioner submitted that different platforms for different updates, were creating “avoidable friction” of switching between the two platforms which could be tackled by creation of a unified WhatsApp channel of the Court for ensuring smoothness of the accessibility and functioning.

The petitioner also highlighted the initiative taken by the Supreme Court in 2023 of creating an official WhatsApp Channel for all case related information which was also followed by the Delhi High Court in 2024.

Apart from creation of WhatsApp Channel the plea seeking a direction for framing of rules for allowing advocates to access the digitized copies of files already pending before the court.

It further seeks development of mechanism for getting e-true certified copies of all the orders which are uploaded on the High Court website and that whenever the respondents are departments/instrumentalities of the State, then an advance copy is served to the nominated counsel.
