The Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA) organized a Constitution Day Walkathon today to commemorate 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution of India and to promote awareness of constitutional values, legal literacy, and citizens' rights.
The event was graced by the virtual presence of Mrs. Justice Lisa Gill, Judge, High Court of Punjab & Haryana and Executive Chairperson, Haryana State Legal Services Authority, who connected through video conferencing. Her Ladyship's gracious participation added great significance to the programme. The State Authority acknowledged that the vision and leadership of the Hon'ble Executive Chairperson continue to inspire and strengthen legal awareness initiatives across the State.
During her address, Justice Lisa Gill emphasized that the Constitution of India is often regarded as the moral compass of our democracy, a sacred document that must be safeguarded, as it is designed to protect the fundamental rights and dignity of every citizen. She stated that in recent times, there is a pressing need to deepen our understanding of Constitutional values to deal with new world issues and to take collective measures to reaffirm our responsibility towards them. Justice Gill urged that continued commitment is essential to uphold the spirit of the Constitution in both letter and practice.
Justice Lisa Gill expressed that the event not only commemorates a historic milestone in India's democratic journey but also serves as a reminder to carry forward the spirit of the Constitution through informed citizenry and collective action.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Judicial Officers of District Court Panchkula, the Deputy Commissioner Panchkula, members of the legal fraternity, students and volunteers.
As part of the programme, two significant legal awareness initiatives were released by Mrs. Justice Lisa Gill. The first was the launch of the Legal Awareness Video prepared under the NALSA JAGRITI Scheme, 2025 (Justice Awareness at Grassroots – Information and Transparency Initiatives). The video has been developed to simplify key legal and constitutional concepts for the general public in an accessible and engaging format. To further enhance its outreach and impact, the video features the involvement of Haryanvi artists and eminent personalities and will be played at all public platforms to strengthen grassroot-level access to justice and enhance the timely delivery of legal aid services.
Another key initiative was release of booklet on Constitution “A Beginner's Guide To The Constitution of India”, a concise, child-friendly compilation intended to enhance understanding of basic Constitutional provisions in a fun and interactive way. The booklet will be circulated in all Legal Literacy Clubs existing in schools of Haryana. The release of this booklet reflects HALSA's sustained commitment to expanding legal and Constitutional literacy across Haryana.
Following the releases, Mrs. Justice Lisa Gill formally flagged off the Constitution Day Walkathon, marking the commencement of the public awareness march. Participants zealously joined in large numbers to reaffirm their commitment to Constitutional values and access to justice.
