Industrialist Anil Ambani on Wednesday (April 29) informed the Bombay High Court that despite the court asking Republic TV and its editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami to exercise restraint, there was again some objectionable telecast on the channel against him.
Single-judge Justice Arif Doctor is seized with the defamation suit filed by Ambani against Goswami and his channel.
Notably, on two previous hearings, the court has made it clear to Goswami that though it was not "gagging" him from reporting anything about the ongoing investigations against Ambani, but he was asked to ensure that he does not "hit below the belt" and also doesn't use any kind of "embellisments" against the industrialist.
On Wednesday, though the matter was listed but it could not be heard due to paucity of time and therefore, while Justice Doctor was about to rise for the day, Ambani's counsel mentioned the matter citing urgency.
However, senior counsel Zal Andhyarujina for Arnab informed the bench that they were yet to receive any 'grievances' from Ambani's side as ordered by the court last time.
Notably, Justice Doctor had asked Ambani to furnish a proper list of objectionable content in the channel's reporting so that a settlement could be arrived.
When Andhyarujina made the submission that Ambani's team has not furnished any details of the objectionable content, the counsel for the industrialist informed the judge that there was a 'subsequent telecast' which too was objectionable.
"My lords, there was a subsequent telecast, again objectionable, thus there is an urgency and please give an earlier date," the counsel pointed out.
To this, Andhyarujina said that even if there was a subsequent telecast, no "subsequent grievances" were pointed out.
However, Justice Doctor reiterated that the court doesn't want such a matter to be "escalated" like this and said that he would be considering the matter further on May 8.
