The Calcutta High Court has modified the roster of single-bench judges with effect from 5th March and transferred cases assigned to Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay to the single bench of Justice Arindam Mukherjee.

Earlier, in light of the controversy due to Justice Gangopadhyay ignoring a division bench's stay order, the Chief Justice had re-assigned cases on primary education from his bench to the bench of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha, and assigned matters on Labour & Industrial laws to Justice Gangopadhyay's bench.

Per the notification dated 4th March 2024, the Chief Justice has now re-assigned cases on Labour & Industrial laws to the bench of Justice Arindam Mukherjee.

Further, the serial numbers of all single benches have also been modified.

Live Law had reported on Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay's television interview on Sunday, wherein the judge declared that he would resign from his post at the Calcutta High Court on 5th March, and wished to enter into the field of politics.
