Centre Notifies Appointment Of Justice Sudhir Singh As Acting Chief Justice Of Patna High Court
The Central Government on Friday (July 10) notified the appointment of Justice Sudhir Singh as the Acting Chief Justice of Patna High Court, consequent to the retirement of incumbent Chief Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai on Saturday.
A notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice reads as follows:
"In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Sudhir Singh, Judge of the Patna High Court, to perform the duties of office of the Chief Justice of that High Court consequent upon retirement of Smt. Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai on 11.07.2026".
Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai took charge of the High Court on June 5 and is set to retire tomorrow, on completion of her one month stint as Chief Justice.
Justice Singh was elevated to the bench as an Additional Judge of the Patna High Court on April 15, 2015 and was sworn in as a Permanent Judge on April 20, 2016.
After completing his schooling from Vikas Vidyalaya, Ranchi Justice Singh completed his graduation in Political Science from Patna College, Patna University and completed his LL.B. from Patna Law College.
Justice Singh enrolled as an advocate in 1991 and appeared as Central Government Counsel for the Union of India, Railway Advocate for Ministry of Railways (Railway Board), Additional Standing Counsel for the Indian Audit and Accounts Department. He was also appointed as the Assistant Solicitor General of India at Patna High Court.
Notably, Justice Singh's father Justice N.P. Singh, is a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and was also the Chairman of Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal.
