The Central Government has extended the for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4, with "considerable relaxations" in green and orange zones.

The announcement was made by the Ministry of Home Affairs, two days ahead of the day for the end of the second phase of lockdown.

"After a comprehensive review, and in view of the Lockdown measures having led to significant gains in the COVID-19 situation in the country, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, issued an order under the Disaster Management Act 2005, today, to further extend the Lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4, 2020", said the press release.

The Ministry is expected to come out with detailed guidelines in this regard soon.

It was on March 24 that the Centre announced 21-day lockdown to control the transmission of COVID-19 pandemic, invoking the powers under the Disaster Management Act 2005.

On April 14, the Centre announced the extension of lockdown till May 3.
