    The PM said that this measure was absolutely necessary to stop the transmission of COVID-19 virus.

    The PM emphasized the need for maintaining 'social distancing' and appealed to the citizens to stay at home and follow health instructions to break the transmission chain.

    "The coming 21 days are very important for us. According to health experts, at least 21 days time is very important to break the coronavirus infection cycle," he said.

    "Just do one thing, stay at home! Today's decision of countrywide lockdown has drawn a Lakshman Rekha around the door of your house", he said.

    "You have to remember that many times a person infected with coronavirus may seem to be healthy in the beginning. It is not known if he is infected or not. So take precaution and stay in your homes," PM Modi., the PM added.

    "Certainly, the country will have to bear the economic cost of this lockdown. But every government's priority is to save the life of every Indian at this time," PM Modi said.

    He said that Rs 15,000 crores have been allocated for health infrastructure to combat COVID-19.

    Testing facilities related to corona, Personal Protective Equipments, Isolation Beds, ICU beds, ventilators, and the number of other necessary tools will be increased rapidly, PM added.

    "I have requested the state governments that their first priority at this time, There should be only and only health services, health care should be the priority", he said. 

    The PM assured that the supply of essential commodities will not be disrupted.

    "We are taking all steps to ensure continuous supply of essential commodities", he said.

     This is the second address made by the Prime Minister on the issue of coronavirus.

    Last week, the PM had urged the citizens to observe 'Janta Curfew', a 14 hour lockdown from 7 AM to 9 PM on Sunday.
