Calcutta High Court Disposes Of Abhishek Banerjee's Plea After HDFC Bank Reactivates Account
The Calcutta High Court on Monday disposed of a plea filed by Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee concerning the reactivation of his bank account, after HDFC Bank informed the Court that the account had been reactivated.
The matter was heard by Justice Krishna Rao.
Appearing for Banerjee, Senior Advocate Ayan Bhattacharjee requested that nominal costs be imposed in view of the unilateral restrictions imposed on his client's bank account, leading to the petition.
Counsel appearing for HDFC Bank submitted before the Court that Banerjee's account had already been reactivated.
However, HDFC Bank's counsel also submitted that the earlier action concerning the account had emanated from the bank's Central Vigilance Team.
She further submitted that, given the nature of the direction, there was no assurance that a similar action could not be taken again in the future.
In view of the bank's submission that the account had been reactivated, the Court disposed of the petition.
