The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the Municipal Corporation, Betul to ensure that the National Emblem removed from Itwari Bazar crossing during construction work is reinstalled with “proper respect and dignity.”

A division bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf passed the direction while disposing of a public interest litigation filed by Raman Gothi alleging that the National Emblem installed at the crossing was being illegally removed by the Municipal Corporation.

During the hearing, counsel appearing for the Municipal Corporation clarified that certain construction work was being undertaken in the area and that the National Emblem was being removed carefully and with due dignity only for that purpose.

The civic body assured the Court that after completion of the construction work, the emblem would be reinstalled at the same location with the same honour and dignity.

Recording the statement of the Municipal Corporation, the Court observed:

“In view of the above, the Municipal Corporation is directed to ensure that the National Emblem is re-installed at the location with proper respect and dignity.”

The petition was accordingly disposed of.
