“By the Time We Dismiss the Matter, Your Car Will Be Charged”: Justice PS Narasimha Advocates EV Charging Stations at Supreme Court
During the hearing of a case, Justice PS Narasimha orally stated that installing electric vehicle charging point facilities in the Supreme Court would encourage more people to switch to electric cars. He stated that by the time the Court proceedings are underway, their vehicles would be fully charged.
A bench comprising Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe was hearing a matter where Senior Advocate Dama Seshadri Naidu was appearing in a matter where the issue of EV charging was raised. During the hearing, Justice Narasimha told Naidu that he was suggesting to someone to switch to electric cars, but then his friend stated that there aren't charging facilities around.
He said: "I was suggesting to someone who was wanting to buy a car. I said now it's better to buy an EV car. He said it's very good and simple for you to say, but in my place, wherever I go, where is the charging point? There are no charging points, and because there are no charging points people are not buying electric cars."
He added that switching from fossil fuels to electric makes a world of difference in terms of pollution and sustainability and added: "If you park your [electric car] in the Supreme Court here, by the time we dismiss the matter, you go back and your car is charged; that would be advantageous. Ask them to provide charging."
