BREAKING| Menaka Guruswamy Files Habeas Petition In Supreme Court Against Detention Of Political Leaders During Delhi Protests
The Supreme Court will hear the matter in a special Sunday sitting tomorrow.
Senior Advocate and TMC MP in the Rajya Sabha, Menaka Guruswamy, has approached the Supreme Court against the detention of political leaders during the protests in Delhi today against the Chief Election Commissioner.
Guruswamy has filed an Article 32 writ petition seeking the relief of habeas corpus, which is listed to be heard by a special bench comprising Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana sitting on Sunday. As per her petition, she has challenged the detention of former Chief Minister of Delhi, Aravind Kejriwal, former Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamta Banerjee, former Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, former Tripura CM Manik Sarkar, amongst others.
She has also stated in her petition that many of the politicians were picked up from their homes and taken to undisclosed locations before they could even reach the protest site.
The Supreme Court will hear the petition along with the contempt petition, which alleges that the closure of the Delhi metro stations and train cancellations were in violation of the Court's October 9 order.
