  • GNLU to hold a Seminar on UN, invites papers

    Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar’s  Centre for Foreign Policy and Security Studies is organizing a two day Seminar on UN @ 70: Urgent Need for Reforms to Retain Vitality and Relevance in the Ever Changing World on 19th and 20th February, 2016.

    The Seminar aims at critically reflecting on a variety of issues revolving around the principal aims of the United Nations framework and functioning which have a bearing on the emerging challenges and possible reforms. The seminar would provide an occasion to bring a diversity of views for critical deliberation, with the prime focus on mapping the emerging challenges and reforms to achieve international cooperation which can serve the common interests.

    Who can submit?

    GNLU invites  Scholars, Researchers working in Think Tank, NGOs, Individuals working for United Nations or any international organisations, and students pursuing graduation, post -graduation and Ph.D studies in the field of Law and Social Science.

    Submission Guidelines

    The paper should not exceed 6000 words (Font Garamond, 12, double spaced, typed pages of size 8½ by 11 inches), including tables, diagrams and appendices (with margins on all sides of at least 1½ inches), but excluding footnotes.

    Abstracts not exceeding 250 words should be submitted to gcfps@gnlu.ac.in.

    Papers submitted should be exclusively written for the seminar and should not have been published or sent for publication elsewhere.

    The authors are required to submit a declaration in this regard. Co-authorship is permitted to a maximum of two authors. Both authors need to register separately Authors of the selected papers will be invited to present their papers in the proposed seminar.

    Note-  III AC rail and Sleeper bus/rail fare by economy class by the shortest route will be paid only to the paper presenter outside of Gujarat. The papers selected for presentation in the seminar will be published in an edited book brought out by GNLU.

    The broad themes of the seminar are as follows:



    • How do international organisation differ from states?
    • Does the UN postulate any theoretical framework to understand the changing concepts (power, conflict, sovereignty, order, democracy, equity, justice); UN role in dealing with issues (security,
    • Trade, development, climate change, globalisation, nuclear disarmament, proliferation, terrorism, cyber security) Role of actors (state, non-state, transnational,
    • Inter-governmental, sub national, supra-national) that constitute the fluid matrix of international political life? India’s role in the institutional process of the UN

    Registration Fee: Rs.1000/- The mode of payment will be by Demand Draft drawn in favour of Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, Payable at Ahmedabad.

    Accommodation: Accommodation for participants will be arranged at GNLU campus for free of cost depending on the availability of rooms. Please note that Campus accommodation is limited.
