Recognizing the role of active citizenry and civil organisations in helping the authorities combat the unprecedented Covid-19 crisis, the students of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow ("RMLNLU") have come together to extend help to migrant workers stranded across the country.

The initiative titled "RML Corona Warriors" saw a group of students from the University organise ration donation drives in various parts of Lucknow, particularly targeting labour camps/shelters. In doing so, the group worked closely with several NGOs of the city, namely: Uddeshya Foundation, Srijan Foundation, Ram Roti Parivar, Jeevashraya, Hoot welfare Society etc. The group was actively supported by the Legal Aid Committee of the University, alongside the Clinic, which has been working closely with organisations such as the Indian Civil Liberties Union and the Legal Aid Cells of National Law Universities namely GNLU, NLIU, Bhopal and NLU Jodhpur in assisting migrant workers throughout the country by arranging shelter, food, transport etc.

Through their persistent efforts, the students of RMLNLU has been able to distribute around 815 ration kits, 200 food packets (daily), 450 kgs of Glucose, 300 cartons of biscuits etc. in the period ranging from 16th May to 7th June, 2020.

Further, the Legal Aid Committee, alongside the Legal Aid Clinic, of RMLNLU, also created a toll-free helpline number 08047192679 for the assistance of migrant workers, through which more than 2,700 calls were made and received. As a result of which, they were successful in connecting with more than 5,000 migrant workers, providing ration kits to more than 300 families, financial assistance worth ₹10,000 to a health worker and assistance in travel facilities to more than 480 such people.

However, to sustain these efforts and continue helping as many people as possible, the students are in need of financial assistance for the same. Even the smallest contribution would go a long way in helping this noble initiative and making someone's life better.
