Delhi High Court has refused to interfere with the order of the Delhi Government wherein a ban has been imposed on the public celebration of Chhath Puja.

While dismissing the petition, the Division Bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Subramonium Prasad noted that public gatherings such as these one would act as a super-spreader of the infection.

The order has come in a plea challenging the order of the Chairman of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority to prohibit public gatherings on the day of Chhath Puja, that is, November 20.

In that order, puja celebrations near ponds and riverbanks have been prohibited in light of the pandemic.

While holding the petition to be devoid of merit, the court said:

'In today's day and time, such a petition is belied by the ground realities'.
