    Former judge of the Patna High Court, Justice Anant Manohar Badar, has been appointed as the chairperson of the Bihar State Human Rights Commission (BSHRC). The decision was made public via a notification issued by the Governor of Bihar, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.

    Born on August 10, 1961, Justice Badar completed his B.Com. and LL.B. from G.S. College of Commerce and Economics, Nagpur, and University College of Law, Nagpur, respectively. He commenced his legal career by joining the chambers of his father, the late Shri M.P. Badar, who served as the Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor at the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court.

    Justice Badar was enrolled as an Advocate on September 30, 1985. He practiced law at the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court and various Tribunals, including Labour and Industrial Courts. In November 2000, he entered the Maharashtra Judicial Service as a directly recruited District Judge.

    During his extensive 23-year-long career in the judiciary, he served as the Additional District & Sessions Judge at Akola and Wardha, Member of the Industrial Tribunal at Nagpur, and the Principal District and Sessions Judge at Pune. He also held the position of Registrar (Vigilance) in the Registry of Bombay High Court and worked as the Principal Secretary, Law and Judiciary Department, State of Maharashtra, from December 2013 until his elevation as an Additional Judge of Bombay High Court on March 3, 2014.

    Later, he was transferred to the Kerala High Court in May 2020 and subsequently to the Patna High Court on October 20, 2021.

    Justice Badar retired from the High Court in August this year, culminating a distinguished career in the judiciary.
