    The Subordinate Judges Court at Ernakulam today passed an ad interim ex-parte injunction against the Malayalam news portal ‘Marunadan Malayali’, restraining it from publishing defamatory content against Lakshya (Learnfluence Education Private Limited).

    Lakshya is a commerce coaching institute known for delivering high results in courses like CA, ACCA, CMA USA, CAM INDIA, CAT, CS etc.

    The injunction was passed in a defamation suit moved by the coaching institute claiming Rs.5 crores as damages. The suit alleges that Marunadan Malayali published certain defamatory and derogatory allegations against the coaching institute and tried to portray them in bad light. There were also false videos released stating that the popular film actor, Mohanlal has backed out from the advertisements of Lakshya, it is averred.

    Such allegations have harmed the reputation and goodwill of the coaching institute, their plea states. The videos were circulated on their You Tube channel and also on their social media pages. Managing Chief Editor of the Channel, Shajan Skariah is also a party to the suit.

    Senior Advocate Joseph Kodianthara argued on behalf of the plaintiffs. The plea states, “The action of the defendants have also caused considerable loss and hardship to the Plaintiffs. The actions of the defendants have also caused considerable loss of reputation and goodwill of the Plaintiffs and the intervention of this Court is crucial to ensure that the rights of the Plaintiffs are protected.”

    An ad interim ex-parte injunction was passed against the defendants restraining the channel from making, writing, posting, publishing, uploading, distributing, re-publishing any defamatory content or statements against the coaching institute through any mode of publication through any platform.

    The plea has been moved by Advocates Vijay V Paul, Gokul Krishnan, Uttara PV, Samaha Abdul Majid and Shilpa Soman.
