62-year-old Vinod Ghai is the son of celebrated criminal lawyer, late RS Ghai, and he practiced on the criminal side and he was appointed senior advocate in the year 2012. He was the defense counsel of Godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim (sacrilege case) and former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini.

Earlier today, outgoing AG Anmol Ratan Singh Sidhu has made his decision public, seven days after formally writing a letter to Punjab's CM Bhagwant Mann. In his letter, he had stated thus:

"I am really thankful to the party for giving me a chance to represent the office of the Advocate General, Punjab. Due to personal reasons, I will not be able to serve this prestigious office, therefore, I hereby tender my resignation, which may kindly be accepted at the earliest."
