    Multiple petitions have been filed before the Supreme Court challenging the decision taken by the Karnataka High Court yesterday that students should wear no religious dress in colleges during the pendency of the case challenging the Hijab Ban.

    On Thursday, the Full Bench of Karnataka High Court made the following observations, while adjourning the hearing to February 14.

    "We will direct that the institutions shall start. But till the matter is pending consideration before the Court, these students and all stakeholders, they shall not insist on wearing religious garments, may be headdress or saffron shawl. We will restrain everyone. Because we want peace and tranquility in State. We are seized with the matter. We can continue the matter on day to day basis".

    The formal order is yet to be uploaded by the High Court.  The special leave petition has been filed on the basis of the oral observations made by the bench.

      Youth Congress president B V Srinivas and a journalism student have moved the Supreme Court seeking to recognize the right to Muslim girls and women to wear a hijab out of their own choice as a fundamental right.

      The plea also prays that the States must ensure that no girls are prevented from education and are not threatened in the name of religion or are not differentiated and discriminated merely because of wearing a Hijab.

      The petitioners have raised the following questions.


      a. Whether the effect of an interim order passed by a constitutional court can be the suspension of fundamental rights of citizens, guaranteed under Article 15, 19, 21, 25 of the Constitution?

      b. Whether when hijab is an essential and integral facet of the belief and faith of the Petitioners herein, the Hon'ble High Court may direct the Petitioners to give up their faith in order to attend an educational institution?
