A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Rajasthan High Court seeking a ban on the movie 'Adipurush,' which is based on the Hindu Holy Epic Ramayana. The PIL alleges that the movie hurts religious sentiments, distorts the facts, and mocks Hindu Gods.

Balmukundacharya Sharma, a resident of Jaipur has filed the PIL through Advocates Amitosh Pareek and Akshay Dutt.

According to the PIL, the movie has used derogatory language in the dialogues, which are being delivered by characters representing Hindu Gods such as Lord Hanuman and Lakshman.

It is further mentioned that the movie has also destroyed the historical facts connected with the Holy Epic Ramayana.

The scenes of the movie are not only illusionary but also giving the wrong message of the younger generation of the country”, the plea states.

The petitioner highlights that Ravana according to the Holy Ramayana is considered to be the greatest Devotee of Lord Shiva and most able warrior in the Hindu Mythology. However, the character of Ravana in the movie has been “badly mocked by the respondents as per their whims,” the plea states.

It also states that the movie has already been banned by the mayor of Nepal from screening due to its depiction of the character and history of Mata Janki, and it is currently facing protests in various parts of India.

The petitioner seeks ban on the further screening of the movie and also seeks directions to prohibit the exhibition on OTT platforms.
