Delhi lawyer found dead in Tis Hazari Court Premises

38 year old lawyer, Advocate Rajeev Sharma was found dead inside the premises of Tis Hazari Court Complex on Friday, reportedly after an argument over the food served in the unit. The dead body was found in the corridor of the building by the Court staff.

The accused, Dhanna Ram Chaudhary was identified and arrested within hours after the lawyers body was discovered in the Court premises.

According to DCP (North) Madhur Verma, the preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was hit by a sharp edged weapon on the back side of his head. The body has been sent for the postmortem and a case of murder has been registered at Sabzi Mandi police station of North Delhi.

The DCP said, "Sharma had visited the eatery around 10:45 PM and an argument had broken out between him and Dhanna over the quality of the food served. During the scuffle, the accused, who was in an inebriated state, allegedly hit Sharma on his head with a heavy brass casting used to grind spices.”

"When Sharma collapsed on the ground, Dhanna Ram fled the scene. Soon, the other employees also shut the eatery leaving Sharma's body lying in a pool of blood. Dhanna Ram was booked under Section 302 (murder) and arrested on here this afternoon," he added.

The Court abstained from functioning yesterday in protest. Advocate Sanjeev Nasiar, President of Tis Hazari Bar Association was quoted as saying, "A young advocate's body has been found in the court complex and he has been murdered. This is a serious issue. We are yet to know what he was doing here late night. All the lawyers have decided to abstain from work today.”
