A unique global project initiated for the very first time, the Mediators' Wellness Program (MeWell), to tackle the mental health problems faced by mediators. The Program, founded by Ms. Iram Majid, Director – Indian Institute of Arbitration and Mediation (IIAM) and currently Executive Director – Asia Pacific Centre for Arbitration and Mediation (APCAM), is the first of its kind to focus specifically on the well-being of mediators. The program aims to address the mental health concerns of mediators globally who face high levels of anxiety, depression, stress, and other similar emotions due to the nature of their work while dealing with other people's disputes. Mediation proceedings involve complex human emotions and can trigger or make mediators relive traumatic experiences like projections and interference.

This program recognises the importance of mental health for mediators and the Mediators' Wellness Program has been designed to create a level playing field for the mental health of mediators, promoting their mental health at a global level. The Program has been designed with the support of a stellar Advisory Committee, including:

    • Mr. Justice (Retd.) Madan B Lokur, Former Judge Supreme Court of India
    • Mr. Anil Xavier, President IIAM and Chairman APCAM
    • Prof. James Coben, Professor and Senior Fellow, Mitchell Hamline’s Dispute Resolution Institute, USA
    • Mr. Geoff Sharp, International Mediator, Singapore | New Zealand.

The official launch of this project is scheduled for Saturday, 4th February 2023. This is a great opportunity for mediators to access resources that promote their well-being and help them to live and lead better profession and life. The program is intended to protect the protector.
