Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) organized 'Inaugural Ceremony' of Legal Aid Defence Counsel System (LADCS) of North & North West Districts at Rohini Court Complex on 26.02.2024.
The programme was graced by Justice Manmohan, Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Delhi & Executive Chairperson, DSLSA alongwith other Judges of High Court of Delhi.
The LADCS is already functioning in South-West, South and South-East Districts of Delhi. As the next step to effectively achieve the mandate of 'Access to Justice for all', DSLSA, in collaboration with North and North -West Districts Legal Services Authorities, extended the facility of Legal Aid Defence Counsel System to criminal cases, subject to the jurisdiction of Rohini Court Complex, as well.
The Legal Aid Defense Counsel System involves the full-time engagement of dedicated lawyers, supported by robust infrastructure, to exclusively handle legal aid work in criminal matters. These lawyers are committed to serve the needs of the underprivileged and are prohibited from taking on private cases, ensuring their undivided focus on the cases of those in need.
The objective behind opening of Legal Aid Defence Counsel System at Rohini Court Complex is to ensure that dedicated legal aid defense counsels are available to represent those who cannot afford legal representation in criminal proceedings.
The LADCS Office will offer dedicated office space for one Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, three Deputy Legal Aid Defense Counsels, and four Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsels.
The 'Inaugural Event' was also graced by Judges of High Court of Delhi i.e. Justice Rekha Palli, Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar; Justice Jasmeet Singh; Justice Amit Bansal; Justice Amit Sharma; Justice Ravinder Dudeja; Ld. Principal District & Sessions Judges of North and North-west districts. Ld. Member Secretary, DSLSA Sh.Mukesh Kumar Gupta with his team of Ld. Secretaries of DSLSA/DLSAs, and other Ld. Judicial officers were also present at the event, which was well-received and concluded with a grand success, thereby opening new avenues in the field of free legal services.
