A two-day Conference on Sustainable Climate Action hosted by the India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER) at Goa, concluded at the Moot Court Hall of the Bar Council of India (BCI) Trust run Law School this evening.

The conference with the theme “Sustainable Climate Action and a Just, Inclusive and Equitable Future: India's Vision for COP 33”, had a total of 11 technical sessions and witnessed the presentation of around 150 papers. It sought to explore the complexities of climate change challenges and discussed various themes related to climate justice and sustainability.

The Conference featured paper presentations and discussions on a wide range of topics, including Climate Justice and Human Rights, Biodiversity Conservation Strategies in a Changing Climate, Renewable Energy Policy and Legal Frameworks, Innovations in Climate Finance and Investment and Legal Implications of Geo-engineering Technologies.

Former Judge, Allahabad High Court, Justice K J Thaker, BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra, Director, GNLU, Gandhinagar, Prof. (Dr.) S. Shantakumar, Vice Chancellor at DNLU, Jabalpur, Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Member Secretary, Goa State Biodiversity Board, Mr. Pradip Sarmokadam and Vice Chancellor IIULER, Prof. (Dr.) R Venkata Rao also participated in the conference.

Justice Thaker in his speech said that the menace of environmental pollution can't be curbed only with legislation. The action plans have to be rigorously followed by the people at large. The gaps between legislation and implementation will have to be narrowed. A cumulative effort will make us an environment friendly nation.

In his address the BCI Chairman advised the new lawyers to raise and fight for the environmental issues through PILs for getting the dual benefit of 'serving the society' as well as getting the much needed 'name and fame' during their days of initial struggle.
