The Vakkom Moulavi Foundation Trust (VMFT) will organise the 17th K.M. Bashir Memorial Lecture on September 24, 2026, at the Science & Technology Museum Auditorium, PMG Junction, Thiruvananthapuram. The event forms part of the K.M. Bashir Centennial Celebrations 2025-26 and will focus on constitutional governance and democratic values.

The memorial lecture will be delivered by Dushyant Dave, Senior Advocate (retired) of the Supreme Court of India, on the theme,“Are We Failing the Constitution, or Has the Constitution Failed Us?” The lecture is scheduled to begin at 4.45 p.m. following the inaugural session.

A special address will be delivered by Adv. Fathima Thahiliya, Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. The programme will also include an interaction session with participants, presentation of mementos, and closing remarks by VMFT representatives.

According to the organisers, the memorial lecture is being held in honour of K.M. Bashir (1925-1990), founder of VMFT, who was known for his contributions as a statistician, international civil servant, and advocate of education, social justice, and communal harmony.

The event will commence with tea and refreshments at 4 p.m., followed by a welcome address from Prof. Jameela Begum, President of VMFT, and commemorative remarks by Dr. Sajitha Bashir, Executive Vice-Chairperson of the Trust.

VMFT said the lecture aims to promote informed discussion on constitutional values, governance, and the future of India's democracy, while continuing the legacy of K.M. Bashir's commitment to knowledge, dialogue, and social progress.
