Four students of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad were injured in Bangalore on Sunday evening, when an elevator came crashing down at a hotel in Frazer Town.

The injured have been identified as Akshara (20), Tanushree Bose (24), Falaq Patel (20), and Ishika (20). The four of them had arrived in Bangalore on Saturday night and were to report for their internships at Udayshankar Associates on Monday. They had been staying at Silver Nest Apartment on M.M. Road in Frazer Town.

The girls took the lift at around 9:30 pm, to step out for dinner. While going from the third floor to the ground floor, the lift abruptly stopped at the first floor. Tanushree then managed to step out, just when the lift cable snapped from the pulley and the lift car plunged into the lift well. Tanushree lost balance and fell through on top of the lift while the others were stuck inside.

The students were then rushed by the apartment staff to a hospital nearby for emergency care before doctors referred them to Hosmat Hospital.

According to a report by The Hindu, Tanushree has sustained fractures on the pelvic bones, sacrum (tail bone), unstable fractures in the right ankle, left forearm and a cut over the face and nose. She is in the ICU for observation and will undergo surgeries for her fractures.

Akshara has fractured her right leg and one of the bones of the foot, and has dislocated an ankle joint in the left leg. She had to undergo multiple emergency surgeries on Monday.

Falaq fractured her right ankle and underwent surgery for the same, while Ishika has been treated as an outpatient for pain and soft tissue injury to the right ankle.

Meanwhile, police officials are looking into a case of negligence causing grievous injuries against the building owner and the lift maintenance company.
