  • GNLU Certificate Course on Genetics and Law (11th to 14th February, 2016)

    This certificate course will examine a variety of legal, policy, scientific, social, and ethical issues relating to Genetics and Genomics. It is designed not only for Law students but also for students of Health sciences, Public policy, Sociology and various other disciplines.

    Science and Technological advancement continue to shape our life and future. Genetics is one such field which is entering all aspects of our lives. Hundreds of policy decisions are made about genetics – such as whether a particular test should be offered, what information should be provided to a patient in advance of a genetic test, and should genes and stem cells be treated like any other type of intellectual property under the law? Advancement in genetics touches us as individuals and as members of society. They raise important questions for policy makers and health officials. Court room cases frequently encounter issues related to genetics and genomics.

    Objectives of the Course: 



    • To give basic understanding of Genetics that is most likely to be encountered in the legal profession.
    • To expose students to a wider range of Genomic issues encountered in civil and criminal cases.
    • To provide a platform for the exchange of ideas on informed public policies on Genetics and law.


    Resource Person: Dr. Bindu Vijay, Assistant professor, Science and Technology.

    Methodology: Lecture method, Case study, Documentary, Group discussion

    Eligibility criteria for participants: Advocates, Health Professionals, Sociologist, Students of U.G. as well as P.G from any stream are eligible to register for this course.

    Non- Refundable Course Fees: GNLU Participants: 1000/- , Others: 1500/- .

    How to Apply: Applicants from GNLU may register themselves by depositing the course fees with the Accounts Department of GNLU (to be deposited only in cash).

    Other candidates may register by drawing DD in favour of Gujarat National Law University payable at Ahmedabad and send it to us at our address. Mention your Name, Email ID and Contact Number on the backside of the Demand Draft.

    A Scanned copy of the Demand Draft along with the soft copy of the registration form is to be e-mailed to bvijay@gnlu.ac.in. The hard copy of the Registration Form and Demand Draft must reach us on or before 6th February, 2016.
