While Ram Gopal Varma is gearing up for the release of his new film God, Sex and Truth, a civil suit has been instituted in  District Court, Hyderabad, alleging copyright infringement by the film’s script. The suit has been filed by Parisi Jaya Kumar. Jaya Kumar was the scriptwriter of Ram Gopal Varma’s film Sarkar 3.

He alleged that the concept and idea of the film was developed by him, and he had discussed the same with Ram Gopal Varma in 2015. It is also stated that he made the concept into a script, which was sent to the e-mail id of Ram Gopal Varma in June 2016. Later, the script was modified and corrected as per suggestions of Ram Gopal Varma. Thereafter, nothing was heard from Ram Gopal Varma regarding the matter.

It is further alleged that when he happened to watch the trailer of the film God, Sex and Truth in YouTube on January 16, he was astonished to notice the striking similarities with his script and the film. He realized that his script was substantially copied by Ram Gopal Varma, without acknowledging his creative efforts. The striking similarities with the dialogues and theme of the film, as gathered from the trailer, and the plaintiff’s script are narrated in the plaint. He stated that his creative labour has been put to waste, and that Ram Gopal Varma was deriving unauthorised benefits from his original literary work.

Therefore, the suit has been filed seeking permanent prohibitory injunction against use of the plaintiff’s script for the film. Damages to the tune of Rs.5,00,000 are also claimed.
