'A Good Judgment Is The Product Of Good Advocacy' : Justice Somayajulu Bids Farewell To Andhra Pradesh High Court

The legal fraternity of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday gathered to bid adieu to Justice D.V.S.S Somayajulu upon his superannuation.The Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, described him as one with "humility, politeness, wisdom and quick understanding. The intrinsic qualities of a good judge. Family legacy reflects in his persona, and he has made it better in many ways.""His rich experience and knowledge has contributed a lot to the development of law, and the judgements rendered by him, would continue to guide the legal fraternity in the future." the CJ further added. The Advocate General and Senior Counsel Subrahmanyam Sriram also addressed the gathering and described Justice Somayajulu as "somebody that could understand lucidly the intricacies of public law," apart from sharing various experiences while practising before Justice Somayajulu. The Chairman, President Bar Council, the Deputy Solicitor General also addressed the gathering and wished him for his journey ahead. Justice Somayajulu was also asked to say a few words. He thanked all his mentors and fellow judges who guided him and 'allowed him to make mistakes.''I tried my best. Literary and figuratively I have, big shoes and big feet, so if I stepped on a few toes, I beg your forgiveness. It was just my endeavour and zeal to render justice."Justice Somayajulu added, 'I sincerely believe that ultimately a good judgement is a product of good advocacy,' and thanked the Advocate General for "raising the bar, and making the arguments such a pleasure.""The High Court is a temple of justice and we used to see it from afar, to be acknowledged as somebody who has contributed. I will always remember the love and affection. It was an honour," he concluded.Justice Somayajulu got his early education in Vishakapatnam and graduated as a lawyer from the Andhra Pradesh University, his specialization being civil, commercial, and arbitration matters. He is an avid cricketer and has also been the president of the Andhra Pradesh Cricket Association amongst various positions of leadership held by him.He was sworn in as a judge in 2017 at the High Court of Telangana and is the first advocate from a mofussil bar in Andhra Pradesh to be directly elevated as a High Court Judge.
