The Bombay High Court on Friday refused to initiate Contempt of Court proceedings against a woman litigant, who had on October 27, attempted to throw her purse towards the judge, after an order was passed against her.

The female litigant, identified as Minder Gurmeet Singh Thukral, a resident of suburban Andheri, was present in the courtroom with her family members and as soon as an order was passed against her family to vacate the suit premises, she picked up her purse and lifted it to throw towards the judge but had restrained herself immediately.

Today (October 30), she was present in the court hall but this time, she apologised for her "unwarranted" conduct and urged the Justice Madhav Jamdar, towards whom she tried to throw her purse, to forgive her.

While tendering her unconditional apology, the woman orally said, "Mujhe galti ho gyi... Maaf kar dijiye (I committed a mistake... Please forgive me)."

Besides her unconditional apology, the woman also undertook to pay costs of Rs 1 lakh.

Having considered the same, the judge said he will not initiate contempt of court proceedings against her.

Notably, on January 27, a regular hearing in Justice Jamdar's court had turned shocking after he noticed the woman, who tried to throw her purse towards him but immediately restrained herself. Noticing the same, Justice Jamdar had got the woman removed from his court after calling the High Court Police Staff.

A visibly, enraged Justice Jamdar had then orally observed, "What kind of conduct was this? Do the litigants think they can do anything they wish to, with the court? Just because some order is passed against you doesn't mean you will behave in such a manner... you need to maintain the decorum of the court...Let a strong message be sent to the litigants... This court will never pass any order in fear or favour."

The judge, however, unimpressed with the written said apology tendered soon after that day, had indicated that he will impose a hefty cost on the litigant and made it clear that Contempt of Court proceedings would be initiated against her.

However, today, the judge pardoned her and refused to initiate contempt of court proceedings.
