The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday directed the CISF personnel assigned to BJP leader Arjun Singh, to check whether the CCTV cameras installed outside Singh's residence, by the West Bengal police were invading his privacy.

A single bench of Justice Amrita Sinha directed the CISF to approach the state police to ascertain the complaint and to seek access to the CCTV cameras installed in front of Singh's house.

The Bench has also called for a report on the same from the CISF before the next date of hearing.

Court noted that according to a report filed by the CISF personnel attached to Singh, some cameras which were installed outside Singh's house had a 360-degree field of vision and the direction of their focus was not able to be ascertained.

State police had contended that these cameras were installed in order to maintain the law and order situation in the city and to prevent crime, track criminals and keep vigil.

The police also stated that multiple cameras had been installed in the Barrackpore area where Singh was residing as part of a surveillance drive and that hundreds more were scheduled to be installed in the area.
