Calcutta High Court Directs 'Status Quo' Over Demolition Of Alleged Illegal Constructions Across Kolkata

The Calcutta High Court on Friday (May 29) directed 'status quo' on demolition of alleged illegal constructions across the city, while hearing a batch of petitions moved by various parties against the demolition action.

Justice Shampa (Dutt) Paul ordered Kolkata Municipal Corporation to not take any coercive steps against owners and tenants till they are given a hearing.

The corporation has been directed to complete the hearing process within 30 days, and it has also sought a report from the State Government.

The matter has been listed to be heard after the Court's summer vacation.
