Chhattisgarh HC Launches Digitization Centre In 4 District Courts, E-Summons Facility For Criminal Cases

In a significant step towards the modernisation of the State judiciary in Chhattisgarh, Digitization Centres at the District & Sessions Courts of Raigarh, Janjgir-Champa, Korba and Bemetara were ceremonially inaugurated via virtual mode on 25th June 2025. The event also marked the formal launch of e-Summons for Criminal Cases and Video Conferencing Facility at District Hospitals across 23 Civil Districts of Chhattisgarh. This initiative is aimed towards significant advancement in the state judiciary's ongoing commitment to transparency, administrative efficiency, and seamless access to justice. The occasion was presided over by Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha, and he was joined by Justice Narendra Kumar Vyas, who is also the Chairman of the Computerization Committee. The Judges of the High Court, including Portfolio Judges of respective Districts and Members of the Computerization Committee, Registrar General, Officers of the Registry, witnessed the programme through the virtual link provided. Also present were the Principal District & Sessions Judges, Judicial Officers, District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, Office-bearers of Bar Associations, Members of Digitization Teams, and Court personnel from the respective Districts. In his inaugural address, Chief Justice Sinha expressed his satisfaction on the successful completion of the inauguration of Digitization centres in all the 23 districts and affirmed that it is a remarkable milestone in the Judicial history of Chhattisgarh. Chief Justice also underscored the indispensable role of digitization in fortifying the justice delivery mechanism and highlighted that the establishment of these Digitization Centres constitutes a significant stride in our endeavour to integrate robust technological frameworks into judicial administration. The initiative resonates with our aspiration to evolve into a paperless, expeditious, and citizen-centric judicial system. The Chief Justice further lauded the concerted efforts of the District Judiciary and the Committee on Computerization, whose proactive oversight ensured the timely execution of the project. The Chief Justice also extended his commendation towards the launch of the e-Summons system for criminal cases and the Video Conferencing Facility at District Hospitals across twenty-three civil districts of Chhattisgarh. These initiatives are not merely technological upgrades but are instruments of efficiency, transparency, and accessibility, he said. He emphasised that connecting hospitals with video conferencing facilities will not only save time in the process of recording medical evidence but also reduce the time spent by Doctors in travelling to the Court. With these advancements, the state judiciary aims to reduce procedural delays, ensure swift communication between institutions, and enhance the convenience of all stakeholders involved in the judicial process. Chief Justice Sinha further added that the implementation of the e-Summons system will ensure prompt and verifiable delivery, eliminating delays and precluding any evasion under the pretext of non-receipt, thereby reinforcing efficiency and accountability in judicial processes. The proceedings commenced with a welcome address by Shri Brijendra Kumar Shastri, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Bemetara, followed by a curated audio-visual presentation showcasing the infrastructure and operational capacity of the Digitization Centres and the scope of e-Summons for Criminal Cases and Video Conferencing Facility at District Hospitals. The programme concluded with a gracious vote of thanks proposed by Shri Jitendra Kumar, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Raigarh, who expressed deep appreciation to the Hon'ble the Chief Justice, Hon'ble Judges, administrative functionaries, and technical teams whose unwavering dedication brought the vision to fruition. This inauguration reflects the High Court of Chhattisgarh's steadfast dedication to advancing judicial infrastructure in harmony with the goals of the e-Courts Mission Mode Project and the Digital India initiative, thereby reinforcing its stature as a symbol of forward-looking, citizen-centric, and digitally empowered justice.
