The Supreme Court Collegium comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice SK Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna has recommended the name of Advocate Ravindra Kumar Agrawal for appointment as a Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

Earlier this year, Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High in consultation with two senior-most Judges of the Court had recommended the elevation of Advocate Agrawal as a Judge of the High Court. The Chief Minister and Governor of the State concurred with the recommendation.

The Collegium, before clearing his name, had taken the opinion of a Supreme Court Judge who is aware about the affairs of the said High Court. The consultee Judge found the Advocate suitable for elevation as a Judge.

The apex judicial appointment body also took into consideration the inputs received from the Government of India regarding suitability of the candidate. The Union Government had pointed out some allegations against the Advocate.

“The Government has flagged certain complaints pertaining to the candidate which are placed in the file. Nothing specific bearing on the integrity or reputation of the officer has emerged on the file,” the resolution noted.

Accordingly, the Collegium resolved to recommend the appointment of Advocate Agrawal as a Judge.
