The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the Central Government to provide one additional personal security officer (PSO) to MP Pappu Yadav without any further delay.

Justice Manoj Jain said that the temporary measure will be in place till the time Centre decides Yadav's representation for enhanced security cover.

For context, Yadav, Lok Sabha MP representing Purnia constituency in Bihar, claimed that he received death threats following his participation in protests in the Parliament against the NEET paper leak controversy and Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

He thus made a representation to the Union Home Ministry, seeking enhanced security cover.

During the hearing today, Central Government Standing Counsel Ashish Dixit said that Yadav's representation is under consideration and will be decided by the authorities within a period of three weeks.

On this, Yadav's counsel said he would not press the petition at this stage if the lawmaker is provided additional security in the meantime, as an interim measure.

The Court this disposed of the plea as not pressed with the said direction:

“…a direction to the respondent to, as a temporary measure, provide one additional PSO to the petitioner without any further delay till the time the representation is question is decided by them.”

Justice Jain clarified that Yadav will be at liberty to take appropriate legal remedies in case he is not satisfied by the Government's decision on his representation.
