The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice on a PIL filed by seven BJP MPs from the national capital seeking implementation of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) scheme here.
A division bench comprising of Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora sought response of the Delhi Government, Delhi LG and the Union Government.
The Court has tagged the petition with a pending suo motu case monitoring the healthcare facilities in hospitals in the national capital. The batch will now be heard on December 11.
The petitioner BJP MPs are Harsh Malhotra, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Praveen Khandelwal, Yogendra Chandolia, Manoj Tiwari, Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Bansuri Swaraj.
Senior Advocate Bansuri Swaraj represented all the petitioners in the case.
The plea seeks a direction to the authorities to implement the health insurance scheme for the underprivileged in the national capital.
It is the petitioners' case that people of Delhi are forced to resort to “borrowing or selling” their assets in case of a medical emergency. They have contended that Delhi is the only Union territory where the Rs. 5 lakh insurance cover was not implemented.
The plea said that such non implementation of the scheme is depriving the underprivileged and that clash of political ideologies must take a back seat in the interest of the welfare of the residents of the national capital.
Case Title: Harsh Malhotra & Ors. v. GNCTD & Ors.
