The Delhi High Court recently constituted a committee to examine whether a “uniform election” of all Bar Associations in the national capital can be held in a single day.

A division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula constituted the committee, which will be headed by Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva.

Other members of the Committee are Justice Jasmeet Singh, Justice Manoj Jain, Chairman of Bar Council of Delhi K. K. Manan, President of Delhi High Court Bar Association Senior Advocate Mohit Mathur and Chairman of Coordination Committee of All District Bar Associations of Delhi.

“The Committee is requested to submit a report in respect of preparation of I. D. Card for lawyers, Radio Frequency Tag/Sticker in respect of vehicles of lawyers and for holding uniform election in respect of all Bar Councils in one day,” the court said in an order passed on July 28.

The bench also requested the Committee to submit its report positively within four weeks and listed the matter for hearing on September 06.

The court was hearing a petition filed by an advocate relating to holding of a uniform election in one day for all Bar Associations.

The petition has been clubbed with another plea which was moved by various lawyers and members of Bar Associations of Delhi in 2021 challenging the Bar Associations (Constitution, Recognition and Conduct of Election) Rules, 2019.
