Delhi High Court Extends Time To Surrender For Lawyer Accused Of Raping Woman Advocate

The Delhi High Court on Thursday granted extension of time to surrender to a lawyer whose anticipatory bail was cancelled over allegations of raping a young woman advocate.Justice Amit Mahajan directed the lawyer to surrender by November 17, and asked him not to contact the victim in the meantime. It further directed that in case the lawyer contacts the victim, the Delhi Police will be at liberty to take appropriate action. On November 07, Justice Mahajan had directed the lawyer to surrender before the trial court within one week. Advocate Natasha Garg appearing for the lawyer today sought extension of one week for the same. She said that the extension was required as an SLP has been filed against the bail cancellation order before the Supreme Court, which will be mentioned to be listed on Monday.Accordingly, the Court granted extension of time to surrender till November 17.In his order, Justice Mahajan had also ordered administrative inquiry action against two judicial officers for their alleged role in influencing a young lawyer to retract her allegations in the rape case. “Before delving into the same, this Court considers it apposite to mention that it is conscious that considering the individuals involved, it is required to proceed with caution. This Court also considers it apposite to note that it was appalled to take notice of the involvement of judicial officers in a case of such nature,” the Court had said. As per the FIR, the lawyer continued to establish physical relations with her by emotionally blackmailing her. She alleged that she even got pregnant out of the said relationship. The woman alleged that the accused maintained cordial relationships with certain Judicial Officers and that they had, prior to and even post the registration of the FIR, attempted to contact and influence her.Title: PJ v.
