The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought response of an X user on a plea filed by Senior Advocate and BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia seeking take down of an allegedly obscene content uploaded over his appearance on a TV debate, which went viral on social media.

Justice Mini Pushkarna sought reply of user “Ranting Gola” within two weeks.

Bhatia has alleged that the user has uploaded a video on X, formerly Twitter on December 19 last year which is in wilful disobedience of an interim order passed in his defamation suit on September 25, 2025.

It is his case that the user, also a YouTuber, has been uploading video and content in defiance of the injunction order.

Appearing in person today, Bhatia submitted that the act of attacking his dignity on social media by using “obscene and sexually suggestive language” cannot be allowed under the garb of freedom of speech and expression.

While pressing for take down of the content, Bhatia said that an individual cannot be allowed to tarnish his reputation by calling the content as humour without any basis especially when there is an interim order in his favour.

He prayed that property of the concerned person be attached, along with civil imprisonment. Bhatia also said that every minute the content is available on social media for everybody to watch, his reputation which is built for years is being hampered and violated.

On the other hand, Advocate Vrinda Grover appearing for the user said that there was no service of the interim order. However, Bhatia said that the order was served to the user on X.

The Court then sought reply of the user on Bhatia's application and listed the case for hearing on May 18.

Advocates Vrinda Grover, Nakul Gandhi, Soutik Banerjee, Devika, Gurdeep Singh and Siddhi Sahoo appeared for the user.

Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia and Advocate Raghav Awasthi appeared for Bhatia.

The suit was filed last year against various individuals, including Ranting Gola and Congress leaders. The coordinate bench had directed take down of two allegedly defamatory social media posts (by Samajwadi Party Media Cell and Sandeep Singh), observing that attacking the dignity of a person using obscene and sexually suggestive language under the guise of free speech cannot be permissible under any circumstances.
