Delhi High Court Issues Notice On Plea Alleging Discrepancies In JEE (Main) 2025, Grants Interim Relief To Aspirant

The Delhi High Court has issued notice on a plea filed by a candidate alleging discrepancies in the conduct of Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2025 held last month.Justice Vikas Mahajan sought response of the National Testing Agency (NTA), Union Government and JEE (Advanced) and listed the matter on May 19. The Court also granted interim relief to the petitioner candidate by permitting him to register his application for JEE (Advanced) and directed that the same be processed.The plea has been filed by candidate Shashank Shekhar Pandey seeking a direction on the NTA to rectify the alleged discrepancies in his recorded response sheet for the JEE (Main) 2025, Session 2. He also sought a direction on NTA to duly consider all the 46 questions attempted by him in respect of his application. It was his case that when he submitted his answer sheet, a pop-up message was shown depicting the attempted questions as 46 and unattempted questions as 29. His counsel submitted that upon downloading his response sheet, he discovered that although he had attempted 46 questions, only 29 questions were shown as attempted. It was also stated that there were 75 questions in total, however, NTA had inverted both values.It was contended that if he was not permitted to register for JEE (Advanced), he would be gravely prejudiced. Granting interim relief to the candidate, the Court ordered: “Having regard to the fact that the last date for registration for JEE (Advanced) is tomorrow i.e. 02.05.2025, this Court is of the view that pending disposal of the present writ petition, JEE (Advanced) be directed to register petitioner's application and process the same.”The Court further directed that the result of the petitioner candidate may not be declared and the same may be placed in a sealed cover.It clarified that the interim direction shall be subject to outcome of the writ petition and the same will not create any special equities in favour of the petitioner.“Re-notify on 19.05.2025. In the meanwhile, the respondent no.2/NTA shall file its counter-affidavit and also produce logs pertaining to petitioner's response in Session 2 of JEE (Main)-2025,” the Court said.
