    The Delhi High Court recently ordered take down of an alleged AI generated deepfake video, alleging poisoning of guests by employees of the renowned hotel Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur.

    Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora observed that contents of the video are prima facie false and directly infringes upon the hotel's reputation.

    The suit was filed by Tata Group's Indian Hotels Company Limited which runs and operates hotel brand Taj.

    Significant to note that TAJ was declared as a well-known trademark by the High Court earlier this year.

    The company argued that its Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur was awarded three Michelin Keys in the Global Michelin Keys Selection on 8th October 2025, which is a distinction that is awarded to the world's most remarkable and unique hotels.

    However, soon thereafter ot came to know that the John Doe Defendant had published a “disparaging and false AI-generated deepfake video” through its Instagram page 'Travelagio' titled “Staff poisoned wealthy guests for 6 months...”

    The video has garnered over 20,000 views, 134 likes, more than 300 shares, 7 reposts, and 12 comments.

    The company reported the same on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal but till date, no action has been taken.

    Accordingly, the Court directed the body to take down the impugned video. It has also restrained the Respondent from circulating the impugned video or any other content disparaging or infringing the TAJ trademarks, on any social media pages/ websites.

    The main suit is listed on March 23, next year.
