The Land and Development Office informed the Delhi High Court on Thursday that it will not demolish Race Course Masjid till the time it decides Delhi Waqf Board's representation on the issue.

The statement was made by CGSC Ashish Dixit before Justice Anish Dayal who was hearing a plea filed by a worshipper seeking protection of the mosque against its apprehended demolition.

The mosque is located inside the Race Course Club, which occupies around 53 acres near the Prime Minister's residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

Dixit told Court that the representation given by the Delhi Waqf Board will be decided as expeditiously as possible, within four weeks. “In the meantime, we will not take any action,” he said.

He also said that the petitioner has no locus in filing the petition and that multiple worshippers reaching Court will open a pandora box.

However, Advocate M Sufiyan Siddiqui appearing for the petitioner- Syed Ahmed Saud, objected to the submission.

The matter will now be heard on December 16.

On the previous hearing, Siddiqui said there is an imminent threat of demolition of the mosque.

He said that the obstruction to ingress and egress has prevented worshippers from entering the masjid and that there is complete abdication of the statutory duty by the Delhi Waqf Board in not taking enough measures on the issue.

Saud claims to be a person interested in the matter by invoking his independent right of religious practice who has been denied access to the mosque.
