Settlement with 4 PM News failed and Court directed the parties to undertake one more round of mediation.
Journalist Anjana Om Kashyap and exam coaching teacher Faisal Khan–also known popularly as Khan sir, have settled the former's defamation suit before the Delhi High Court.
Advocate Vrinda Bhandari appearing for Kashyap told Justice Tushar Rao Gedela that the matter has been settled between Khan sir and five other defendants.
The other defendants are Babita Tyagi, Arvind Bhadauriya, Manish Yadav, X Account operators SamKhasa and Abhimanyu1305.
The dispute pertains to Kashyap's coverage on "star teachers" and subsequent remarks made by online educators. Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao was appointed as mediator by the Court in July.
Bhandari told the Court that the settlement agreement will be signed in a few days and sought time to bring the same on record once finalised.
She told Court that the mediation with defendant 8— 4 PM News has failed and that the settlement talks with defendant no 2- Abhinay Sharma, remains pending.
Regarding defendant no 8, the Court told its counsel that the remarks made by 4PM News journalist was not mere reporting but personal opinion that what Kashyap was saying was “fake news ki dukaan.”
The Court requested Kashyap and 4PM News to undertake one more opportunity to explore mediation and requested Rao to take his good offices to facilitate the settlement.
The Court also recorded its appreciation for Rao for his tremendous hardwork as the mediator. “You have done something which was almost impossible. As I said on the first date, these things should not come to Court,” the Court said.
The matter will now be heard on December 15.
Kashyap and the TV Today Network sought removal of allegedly defamatory comments such as "bikau partaker", chatukar", "dalaali', "fake news dukaan", etc., made by Khan Sir in reference to her coverage on "star teachers".
The controversy arose in view of a live debate on the NEET exam system, when Kashyap allegedly criticized online teachers, calling them "frauds" and "explainers" chasing views.
The Rs. 2 crore defamation lawsuit sought the removal of allegedly defamatory material from online social media platforms.
