    Assam Government has informed the Gauhati High Court that 100 police stations have been provided with CCTVs in Phase-I and in Phase-II, installation and commissioning of CCTVs has been done in 197 police stations.

    The division bench of the Chief Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice Devashis Baruah was further apprised that all the CCTV feeds are being monitored at the centralized control centre in Ulubari, Guwahati.

    The information was submitted by the state Advocate General D. Saikia in a hearing of a suo moto PIL registered following the incident of lynching of two accused persons to death on February 19, 2018 after taking them out from police custody of Tezu Police Station, Arunachal Pradesh.

    The court had earlier directed the Advocate General to find out about the status of CCTV systems in respect of the police stations in Assam.

    On May 15, the court had also directed the State of Arunachal Pradesh to put in place a comprehensive CCTV system in all police stations across the state with the data being monitored by a centrally located control room.

    Additional Advocate General B.D. Goswami informed the court that CCTVs have been installed in all the police stations but till date, the centralized control centre has not been established because of connectivity issues.

    "We hereby direct that this process shall also be expedited," said the court.
